Cea de-a doua intalnire din cadrul proiectului Bibliotecii Dumbravita a avut loc in 18 februarie 2009. Tuturor participantilor li s-au oferit materiale privind aria protejata.
Twinning Project – „Natura 2000 and the wetlands” workshop
The Twinning PHARE Project has started in November 2005. The aim of this project is to support the Regional Environmental Protection Agency Sibiu (REPA), the Local Protection Agencies (LPAs) and the National Environmental Guard from the Region 7 Centrum concerning their responsibilities and current activities in European legislation implementation and monitoring. The Twinning PHARE Project from Sibiu is focusing on nature protection and as a focal point for these kind of activities (nature protection). For the moment there is in progress the second part of the project and this will be finished until September 2009. Three workshops of this project are focusing on Natura 2000 and the needs of the wetlands, woodlands and crop lands. The workshop “Natura 2000 and the wetlands” took place within the Natura 2000 Site “Dumbravita – Rotbav – Magura Codlei” from Brasov County between 10 – 11 September 2008. The workshop has worked on a real case to identify the problems, needs and to find the solutions for other such wetlands. The experts of the project were Dr. Jan Meier and Dr. Robbert de Ridder from Holland and from the caretaker of this protected area, Dr. Dan Traian Ionescu. The participants were from the caretaker of Dumbravita protected area and fishing company – Doripesco, REPA Sibiu, LPAs from the Region 7 Centrum, Environmental Ministry, National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA).
Dumbravita Fishpond Complex – a future Natura 2000 Site Matra Knip Project
Romanian Ornithological Society has started during 2006 a Matra Knip Project with the financial support of the Holland Embassy from Bucharest. The project has two main components. One of them is a research working (on field and on the office) for completing the official standard form of the scientific Natura 2000 Sites documentation to designate this area as Special Protection Area (of European importance). The researching work is compounded by: scientific data collecting on the field (data focus on flora, fauna, habitats), data analyzing and the elaboration of the standard Natura 2000 form, GIS maps designing. Some specialists from the ROS and from the Transilvania University of Brasov – Forestry Faculty have participated on these studies. Another important goal was the public awareness concerning the importance of this area for maintaining of biodiversity. The target groups were the local community, the tourists (including anglers), the local commercial societies with activities within the area etc. The educational activities were also applied for the local children. The project also financed: a few information panels, bilingual leaflets, bilingual booklet (this booklet describes the importance of the area, the natural and touristic attractions, the sustainable activities of the local communities, the main activity – aquaculture etc.), a documentary movie etc.
